Creating new print queues before printers are on the network.

We are installing a couple of new printers in one of our remote offices and although they are not yet plugged in and on the network I want to do some of the legwork prior to the switch over.

I have the drivers in place both x86 and x64. What’s the best way to set up the print queues without the printers being online. Am I able to set them up as Local Printers with a TCP/IP port setting and then update the IP address when online? Will it allow me to go through the installation without the printer being online?

We want to re-use the IP addresses of 2 printers that are getting replaced.

Non-Domain Print server

Hello All,

We set up a non-domain print server for our SAP integration. We have several printers all being shared. When we go to add a printer on a workstation or terminal server through add a printer and choose network we can bring up list through typing in \\servername\. When we use windows explorer it says we can not access. How can we allow them to browse printers through windows explorer? This will be done from domain and non domain accounts.

-File and printer sharing is on

-Windows firewall is off

- Guest account is on

Add Printer "Windows Update" in 2012 R2 is stuck i.e. does not work. Is there an offline variant?

$

The printer is an Oki microline, the Oki homepage says "use the microsoft driver you can get when using the Windows Update button". This isn't exactely new, it is the same for HP Laserjet 4 and a few thousand other printers.

The problem is that the add printer wizard gets stuck stuck when hitting "Windoes Update". %WINDIR%\SoftwareDistribution was removed several times. The Windows update components were re-registered. Nothing seems to help, every time I try that add-printer-click-windows-update method it does not work. The internet is not blocked, any other Windows update or surfing works as it should. Another 2012 R2 server (same network, the DomainController) gets the list without hassle.

It there a way to clone that printer info over to the other Server?

Is there an offline method to get the full list of MS-supported printers? Or an offline update I can download so the full list of printers appears as it should without the need for hitting "Windows Update"?

As last: That server cannot be reinstalled..

WSD port printer issues

Hello,

I have two issues with a print server I have. We just preformed a fleet replacement of copiers and the new ones all "support" WSD ports however this appears to be causing issues. Sometimes a copier will just refuse to print from its share as the job errors out, in addition some of the devices do not clear jobs from the queue so they print but sit in a "sent to printer" status until deleted manually.

On recommendation of our Toshiba technical rep I installed Kb 2906850 even though we do not change the default permissions. This did not fix the issue. I also changed the driver isolation settings from the default of system to none. This did not resolve the issue. The driver is the Toshiba universal driver 2 version 7.131.345 dated 5/28/14.

Does anyone have any ideas?

IPP - Can't get it to work on port 631

So I'm trying to enable IPP printing so that various anonymous guests on our wireless network can use one of the office printers that we currently have.  Server is 2008 R2, and most printers are HPs.  Regular printing works fine.

I've got IPP working over port 80 on both Win7 and OSX Clients.  This was done via connecting to <a href="http:///printers/<printername>/.printer">http://<IPaddress>/printers/<printername>/.printer

Windows was done via the add printer wizard and entering this into the shared printer by name.
OSX was done via using the "advanced" option and then manually selecting the http IIP protocol.

So my question is - how do I get it to work over the standard port of 631?  This is mainly so that macs don't need the extra steps, I wish I could just use the "IPP" dialogue box by default.  Also, most windows instructions state to use":631" as part of the IP string, so I'm curious on why it doesn't work.

I couldn't find any configuration requirements, other than adding the role to the server.  Any ideas?

Print Server unable to send job to printer

Hi All,

Would like to ask about one of our shared printers. We have 8 printers connected to the network and shared from a 2008 R2 server.

Only since yesterday, this particular printer won't print. The server receives the job and has assigned to the designated printer. The job has "printing" as status, but nothing comes out of this printer. This happens until the printer status itself goes to offline and the job errors out - printer still physically online.

Restarted the printer and the job pushes thru. After a couple of minutes, another print job gets stuck in the queue for the same machine. Same status, same situation. Restarted the machine again and it prints. Odd thing, the server is able to see the printer as ping requests are received and replied to.

I've already did a cold reset on the machine. Connected my laptop to it via USB and cross-cable which resulted in successful printouts all the time. Even removed the printer from the server and reinstalled fresh. It prints during the first time then stops afterwards.

Even a test print from the server itself gets stuck. Got this entry on eventviewer for the test page:

"Win32 error code returned by the print processor: 2250. This network connection does not exist."

The connection DOES EXIST as the server is able to ping the machine.

For the offline status of the machine, I read somewhere that I need to uncheck SNMP. I did and it was back online, however, the print issue continues.

Any ideas as to what might suddenly cause this?

Default printer, in RDS W2012 roaming profile, disappear sometimes

Hello!

We have a problem with the defaults printers in my roaming profiles. We have an AD W2012 and my domain users can connect to a RDS farm in W2012 too. Obviously the roaming profile works fine. In other W2012 server, I have a printServer, with all the company printers installed. The user only must to add any printer listed in the directory to his session, because the server already have the drivers installed correctly.

The problem starts when during the day, in any moment, the user lost the default printer, he is printing 3 or 4 followed documents, and can lost 1, a message appear: The user XXX don't have any default printer in his profile!! This occurs in every moment, but not always. Others users can print during all the day without any error, but at the next day they can get the error other time.

We dont' see any error, about this in the event viewer.

Thanks.

To use a print server or not use a print server : that is the question

$

Hi All, I have been using a print server for years now, which are all stored on a 2k3 server.

I have been reading that IT shops are moving away from print servers and connecting users directly to the shared printer. My network has about 150 users and about 15 shared printers.

Anyone have some thoughts on this? Is the trend to move away from print servers? Are there benefits of not using them? ANy downside to connecting users directly to the printer?

Workstations getting event 513 on deployed printers

$

We have a number of workstations that are getting unavailable printers upon logging in (usually grayed out w/ yellow exclamation) at seemingly random.  A user could log in with no trouble at all or get this condition, no pattern is known yet.  A look into the event log on these workstations shows event ID 513 with a message as follows:

Event 513: PrintService - Group Policy was unable to add per computer connection \\server\printer. Error code 0xbc4. This can occur if the name of the printer connection is incorrect, or if the print spooler cannot contact the print server.

I changed the names of the server and printer for public display, but internally we have verified that they are correct.

Any ideas on what I can try to narrow down possible causes or correct the issue?

I am doing printer migration from a W2K8 server to anther W2K8 server.

I know how to do it, but having a small confusion.

Is it necessary to install printer drivers on new server, where printers will be imported? Consider, both server have same architecture and OS.

How interacts the LDP service with the windows print drivers

$

Hi all,

We have some printing problems between unix system and our Windows print server.

I want to understand how interacts the windows print drivers with the LDP service.

As I understand, Unix format the document by his local print driver, send the document to our print server using the LPD service. But at this time, How Windows 2008R2 process the document.

The document is it reformat by the print spooler according to the print driver used before sending to the printer?

Or the Unix document is it just passed over the LPD port?

Many thanks for your response

Martin
