Print test page fails, but application print ok, any ideas?

Print test page fails from printer, but applications print ok. Printer is deployed via GP from a 2012 R2 print server. It's a Lexmark with a type 4 driver.  On some machines the print test page fails. On a clean/fresh built machine the print test page prints fine.  Both computers can print to the printer fine from applications such as Word, etc.

Both client machines are W7 64bit and using the Microsoft enhanced point and print driver.

Any thoughts? I feel like there's an underlying issue causing this which may possibly cause other issues down the road.

Thanks in advanced!

Print spool very slow (Windows 8.1)

Hello guys, got a very odd issue in Win 8. This used to work fine without any issues, I'm not sure though what the user had done.

Print spool is very slow.

Tried printing a text file from Notepad with just "123" in the text, takes 10 minutes to print.

Here's what I have tried and done:

- restart print spooler service (command line and services.msc)

- re-install print driver (latest driver from Fuji site)

- remove and delete printer

- remove, install print driver from command line

All steps above does not help.

Laptop got Symantec Endpoint and does not report any virus. Windows update is also up-to-date.

Any thing I'm missing?

I need your help, any ideas is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Remove old printers stuck in HKLM Registry

In my domain I have a lot of Windows 7 workstations that seem to have a list of left over printers in the registry that would added by an old Computer based GPO.  Is there a way preferably by powershell that I can remove these from a targeted workstation or multiple workstations?

Migrated to 2012 - No One Can Print Now!

Hello,

We have been in the process of migrating off of 2003 domain controllers to 2012.  Last week we started up the 2012 servers and added them to the domain as member servers.  Because we are a small domain (2 sites with about 20 printers in all), we manually added the printers to each 2012 server and connected everyone to the 2012 printer shares.  Everyone had been printing fine without any issues

Over the weekend, we migrated off of a Windows 2003 domain and prompted the 2012 servers to DCs.  We made sure to transfer roles (PDC, etc) to the new 2012 server, DNS and DHCP.

Ever since then, printing has been a nightmare.  In the Admininstrative Events log we keep seeing stop errors:

Installing printer driver - failed, error code 0x0, HRESULT 0x80070490. See the event user data for context information.

The document Print Document, owned by BabC, failed to print on printer AcctLJ1. Try to print the document again, or restart the print spooler.
Data type: RAW. Size of the spool file in bytes: 2239. Number of bytes printed: 0. Total number of pages in the document: 1. Number of pages printed: 0. Client computer: SysAcct1. Win32 error code returned by the print processor: 5. Access is denied.

The ONLY changes have been making the 2012 servers domain controllers and making the domain a 2012 level domain.  I've searched the net for this issue but have not found anything that resolves this issue.  Thanks in advance.

Does anyone know what these do or where they are documented?  Do they delete printers of logged in users after a certain time (I believe 384 is hex for 900 seconds or 15 minutes)?

How to modernize Internet Printers Web Page For Better Browser Compatibility?

$

We deployed the http://PrinterServer/Printers page on a Server 2016 Standard server and it works OK for computers on our domain, but only in Internet Explorer.  Computers on our domain probably won't use the page since it has no apparent advantage over using Windows 10 add printer dialogs.

So, the primary use for this page would be for contractors and visitors with PCs not joined to our domain to be able to easily add printers.

However, it is NOT easy at all.  It is much worse for non-domain joined computers.  IE won't show the Connect link unless they enable Compatibility view settings AND add the printers page to their Trusted sites.  This is not user friendly or intuitive at all and it's ridiculous for them to have to add our entire domain to compatibility view since that may break modern sites that works best in native mode.

Are there any settings we can change on the print server web page to make the Printers page Connect links work without special compability settings in IE?

Are there any other workarounds such as using a custom page to share printers and copy the Connect link URLS there?

It's annoying that the page "looks" so dated, but what's worse than cosmetic appearance is that it doesn't work in any modern browsers and doesn't even work in IE 11 without tinkering with Internet Options settings.

TCP connection reset when printer does not respond to Ack Fin packet

$

We have an automated printer that prints a new label about every 2 to 3 minutes when the next carton comes down the line.  Since the printer prints infrequently the input buffer fills up.  Normally this is not an issue as the printer sends a zero window and they exchange Keep Alive packets until the printer can accept more data.

Our Windows 2008 SP2 print server sends a Reset packet to a Zebra printer if the server has sent the last packet of data in a file to the printer but the printer buffer is full and the printer cannot respond. When the server resets the connection, the printer drops the final packet and the labels do not print.  Hotfix 2996207 exists for Win 2008 R2 SP1 and newer but I cannot find a hotfix for Win 2008 SP2.

I have set the TCPFinWait2Delay registry entry to the maximum 300 seconds but this is an automated printer that only prints a case label when the next case of finished product is complete and the case arrives at the printer. The delay can exceed the 300 seconds and the Reset is sent which causes the printer to discard the last packet of information sent to it.

Is there a hotfix for Windows 2008 SP2 like 2996207?

Unable to print to Send to Onenote 2016

Hi, I'm not able to print to the OneNote 2016 Send to OneNote 2016 printer.  I've done a quick and an online repair of office, I've deleted the printer and had office re-add it, I've restarted the print spooler, and modified the permissions on a registry key (details forgotten), so everyone had read permission.  I keep getting this error:  Win32 error code returned by the print processor: 2147500037. Unspecified errorin Event Viewer every time I try to print to it.  Print jobs to other devices work just fine.  I've tried from multiple applications, and searched for solutions online, but haven't found anything yet.  Please help!

What is the best network printer practice for us?

Hi,

Environment:

Remote Desktop services

Server 2016 Datacenter

Printer Server - 2016 Server

Single site domain environment.

We have been having some problems with our RDS servers in that the desktop icons started flickering when other users log into the Server.  I noticed that when the user logs in the network printers install shortly after they log in.  All printers are installed under the User GPO using the normal path for the printer server.  We were going to deploy the printers on the servers themselves but found that when a user selects a default printer this is not replicated when they land on another server in the Farm collection.

All of our printers are using the stock up to date drivers for the printer respectively.  In total we have 6 network printers and actually my end goal is to stop this desktop icon flickering.

Has anyone experienced this?  what are the best recommendations regarding printer setup on RDS servers to ensure the user experience is good?

Any help and advice will be great.

Restricting the size of print jobs for server-managed printers

$

Our customer uses Group Policy to deploy a number of networked printers.  Unfortunately, as this is an educational environment, students and staff sometimes submit print jobs that are so large (< 50 MB) they appear to overwhelm the printers (they're workgroup lasers that we're replacing with beefier models).  The printers are shared by/managed by one of our Windows Server 2008 R2 VMs.

Is there any supported way--whether with Group Policy, the Print Management snap-in, or otherwise--to restrict the size of print jobs?  I'd like to restrict them to anything under 50 MB.  Preliminary research suggests there's a way to do this with file size quotas on the spooler files, but that seems awkward to implement and of dubious value.  I was hoping there was a Powershell cmdlet or "right-click, select Properties"-type GUI option to handle this without using third-party software.  Or is third party the only way to solve this?

Thanks!

Hello all:

I have a windows server 2012 and I cannot seem to get any output on the printer.  I installed the HP drivers and tried the generic drivers same results.   I have  let HP setup the ports and I have tried to manually set up the ports to the printer with the same results.

I print a job and nothing prints.  If I look at the queue while submit the job,  I can see that the job goes into the queue but it is immediately removed like it printed

I have looked at the error logs and there are no errors

I have tried different printers same problem

someone suggested to add the print role to the server I did that no change...

Does ANYONE have any thoughts that can help me

thanks

Using Microsoft XPS Document writer as default printer for all clinets

$

Hi

Our Infrastructure contain 300 windows 8.1 and 4 domain controllers and print servers, relaying on Group policy to deploy 50 printers to different organizational units

all users are using Mandatory user profile

My problem is printers are showing by 50:50 each time user logs on to the computers ! i have posted my issue in more than three different places with no solution , i believe the issue is related to mandatory profile and can not be fixed .

since the printers are essential for our infrastructure i was thinking about redirecting XPS document writer to actual physical printers that hosted on our print server By modifying Ports tab on xps document writer printer object , actually i have done that but when i press a test page it will print nearly 300 pages with unknown Encoding characters! anybody done this or have the same issue ?

the reason for my idea is xps object is always there ,it does not require GPO and it is fully functioning with Mandatory profiles

my idea looks like crazy but trust me i don't have other options

Kind Regards

windows fax file name reset

Hi,

I have a windows 2016 std setup as fax server, everything runs fine except one thing:

every time, the building lost power in weekend or restart the server after upgrade, the received fax file name will be reset to start from Fax00000000 again. Can it be setup to follow the name # after restart?

I had 2012 std fax server before, it didn't have this problem, the fax would continue follow the name rule after restart.

researched Regedit, fax service manager, don't know where to change setting.

Thanks,

Print Server Migration Question

$

Hello everyone, I have questions on migrating my print server. We currently use an 08 R2 server and I want to upgrade to 12 R2. I've found good articles on how to migrate print drivers and queues etc from 08 R2 to 12 R2 like this one:

https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/canitpro/2013/06/16/step-by-step-migrating-print-servers-from-windows-server-2008-to-windows-server-2012/

What none of the articles really talk about it what happens after you migrate. I am assuming no magic happens and your original server just stays running and its all good. When you want to switch over, after you have tested your important printers on the new server, you would simply power down the production print server, change the new servers Name and IP to the old one and your good to go. Is that the case or am I missing something? Will doing this cause everyone with shared printers to have to re-download drivers etc?

If you've done this, any tips would be great.

A printer was connected to a PC named R09760 with usb. I shared the printer and rename it as M126.

In another PC named PC-17892B,  I could see the M126 from

explorer \\R09760

.

Then I wantted to add the M126, So I run

rundll32 printui.dll,PrintUIEntry /in /n\\R09760\M126

. Later, I could see a printer at the Control Pannel.

I wantted to save the setting, So I run

rundll32 printui.dll,PrintUIEntry /Ss /n\\R09760\M126 /a "D:\2.dat"

. Later, I could see the file D:\2.dat.

But when I restored the setting from file by the cmd

rundll32 printui.dll,PrintUIEntry /Sr /n\\R09760\M126 /a "D:\2.dat" r

, it failed with error

unable to complete operation (0x0000000c)

.

How could I restore the settings of a shared printer? Thank you!

Export all shared printers "Print Preferences" from server.

Hello, hope you are well.

The company I work for wants to make sure all colour printers on the estate are defaulted to print black and white instead of colour to reduce unnecessary costs.

I have been asked if I could investigate all the printers to make sure that they are set to print default black and white for all users.

The company has 100s of printers so don't like the idea of doing this manually.

I am wondering if there is at least a way to export all the print device information from each print server that would detail what the printer preferences are set to. I don't expect to be a lot so changing any to black and white should not be a big job to do manually, but if the information gathering could be automated then that would be a big chuck of the work.

I have found a number of printer information export PowerShell scripts which are great but they don't display the printer preferences for each device. I suspect there is not a Microsoft way as this information is set within the properties of the driver.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Dave

Print Preview Does Not Match with Print Result

Hi all expert,

Currently I have one Server 2008 R2 used for remote desktop server for my Korean users to access Axapta3.0

This server has no problem for print any Sales Order, Purchase Order from Axapta3.0 client in Korean language.

We intend to migrate this server to Server 2016, but there has printing problem in this server.

For preview it works perfectly, but print result it mix Korean with some garble characters.

This result even happened if print on pdf soft copy, this make me suspect is nothing to do in printer drivers.

Below is the steps I have been done.

1. Running Windows update patch all the latest patches.

2. Set Non-Unicode Program running in Korean (without doing this can't even preview in proper).

3. Install vendor driver and using Remote Easy Print driver; result same.

4. Install Adobe Reader Korean version.

What else I can done to solve this.

Appreciate any input from all the experts.

Thanks.

Kenny

windows shared printer printing failures, stuck in 'printing' status in control panel

Once in a while a user will login and create their windows shared printer, but they won't be able to print.  In the printer control panel, the status stays at 'printing'.  Here's some error messages from the PrintService Admin and Operational logs.

What's the difference between printbrm.exe and PrintUIEntry

$

As we know, we can save something of printers by

rundll32 printui.dll,PrintUIEntry /n M126 /Ss /a "D:\1.dat"

or

printbrm.exe /b /f D:\

.

Of course, I know that the one is calling an exe with arg from cmd, the other is that a process loadlibrary the dll and call the function.

I don't know what's the difference between the files which they save. such as D:\1.dat between D:\1.printerExport.

In fact, I know little about printers.
