Print Server Issue

Hello,

i created a print server, but the problem when someone add a printer to his computer all apps can't manage it.

For example Chrome, Edge, Windows Photos, Libre office can't change paper size, orientation etc. It prints whatever are the settings on the driver.

It does not matter if the logged account is admin or user and it's not permissions on the printers, i tried it. The problem is only if the printer is

shared on the server, if the printer is installed on the PC its okay.

Offline Branch Printing is enabled and i set a GPO that allows users to install printer drivers without admin rights if that matters.

Only MS Office 2013 can manage shared printer.

Server: Windows Server 2012 R2

Clients: Windows 10 1803

Installing x32 (additional drivers) for shared printer on a win 7 x64 laptop using client win 8.1 x32 bit tablet (Help please)

I setup a laserjet 3050 pcl5 printer on a Win 7 x64 bit OS note book computer. Now I a have a tablet that has win 8.1 x32 bit OS I managed to set the HOME Group for sharing but cant get the 8.1 tablet to access the network printer. I went to the share option of the printer and tried to add x 32 drivers but I cant get the drives to load. there are several exe files on the HP website I am not sure which one is supposed to work. Please forgive my ignorance in this task this is the first time I am trying to do this.

https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-laserjet-3050-all-in-one-printer/1140783

This is where I was expecting to get the x32 drivers for 8.1 windows OS. Should I be getting win 7 x32 drivers? that would not make sense since the tablet has got 81 windows x32.

Thanking you in advance for your help

Unable to add shared fax

Hello,

We have a fax service running on Windows Server 2012 Standard. This is running under the 'fax server' role.

The fax service is shared and I can browse to it through the network. When I try and connect to the fax from a domain user profile, I get the following message in the eventlog under Microsoft-Windows-PrintService/Admin

--

The print spooler failed to import the printer driver that was downloaded from \\Server\print$\x64\PCC\prnms002.inf_amd64_4570fb8a8701b66b.cab into the driver store for driver Microsoft Shared Fax Driver. Error code= 800f024b. This can occur if there is a problem with the driver or the digital signature of the driver.

--

I have tried the following

  • Gave user admin rights
  • Extacted the .cab file and copied the files locally into C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository
  • Double checked group policy
  • Disabled UAC

Strangely, if I log in as another user who previously had the fax connected, this works under their profile but if I create new domain user on the system, log onto the client machine as them, I cannot add the fax.

The other thing I have tried (which I am not sure if this is expected to work) is to add the driver manually. When I do this and browse to the extracted files from the .cab file, it shows the ini file but no drivers appear.

Any help would be appreciated as running out of ideas.

Many thanks,

Luke

Printer Migration List in directory choice

Hi

i tried to check online but i couldn't find a understandable explanation about the choice "List in directory" when i launch an Import with the Printer Migration
There are 3 choices
>List printers that were previously listed
>List all printers
>Don't list any printers

Does it mean that if i select for example the 1st choice the printer will be listed in AD but through this new print server ..?  and If i select "don't list any printer", the one from the old server remain published and nothing is changed

thanks

Windows 10 apps (Edge, Foto Viewer) are creating print jobs in XPS format on print server

We have one customer who is using Windows Server 2012R2 as print server with Win10 clients. For unknown reasons the print jobs which are created by Win10 apps like Edge or Foto Viewer are stored in XPS format at the spool directory (or at least I think that it is XPS format, because if you open the file as a zip it has a pretty similar structure). The file names are the same as usual (e.g. C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS\00002.SPL). We need to analyse the PJL header of the print jobs and so XPS format is a problem.

I tried the replicate the same environment but I didn't managed to reproduce this behaviour. And so I'm searching for the setting, that causes this.

Print spooler network ports and firewall: what does the TCP 49159 port do?

$

Hi All,
I'm configuring a firewall to allow clients to print through a windows print server.
Initially I have opened only ports defined for the "File and print service" and most of clients was able to print:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/832017/service-overview-and-network-port-requirements-for-windows

Some clients instead was not able to print, so I have captured network traffic and I saw that they was trying to connect to TCP port 49159.
Enabling this port, they are able to print.

So, why some clients require this port to connect to print spooler on the print server?

Thanks in advance

Print-Server Migration Windows Server 2008 R2 to Windows Server 2016

We are migrating our Print-Servers from Windows 2008 R2 to Windows Server 2016. The Servers are Listed in Directory and I can not edit the GPO. Most of the Drivers work fine but some give me the error Message : The print spooler failed to download and import the printer driver from "\\server" into the driver store for driver KONICA MINOLTA C368SeriesPCL. Error code= 800f0242.

And: The print spooler failed to import the printer driver that was downloaded from \\server\print$\x64\PCC\koaxtj__.inf_amd64_neutral_8d025ed74f178b9f.cab into the driver store for driver KONICA MINOLTA C368SeriesPCL. Error code= 800f0242. This can occur if there is a problem with the driver or the digital signature of the Driver.

When I install the Drivers on the Client Machine locally they work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Kind Regards

Windows Server 20XX - Internet Printing with Firefox

Hi everybody,

we're currently using the Interner Printing feature as it is quite comfortable for users to access a webpage and just click the connect button to install a desired printer.

But I'm afraid that the this feature will be kicked out soon or becomes unuseable. IE is the only browser supporting this action as it is an ActiveX based feature. And IE is about to be banned sooner or later afaik.

I've read about an add-on for Firefox named IE Tab, but it seems that it is not existing anymore. Is there a way to get the function working in FF or Edge? Or does anybody know about plans that Microsoft will update this feature?

Regards

HPE LJ M602N stops responding on W2008 R2 server RD user session

$

Hi,

We have an issue on a W2008 R2 Remote Desktop Server where a specific user can no longer print to the HP Laserjet  M602N on our print server.

There are no relevant errors in the event log. The spool on the server is empty. He does not get an error either. Just an endless hourglass. Others on the RD Server can print without a problem to that same printer. When I open the printer properties as that user and print a test page, the printer properties screen becomes unresponsive. When closing the properties screen, windows explorer needs to be restarted.

I tried logging off the user, removing and reinstalling the printer from the RD Server, removing the printer from the print server and reinstalling with the latest print driver from HPE Download. Reinstalled the printer on the RD Server but still this user can not print to that printer! Also same printer properties screen issue.

He can print to other HPE LJ4100 printers just fine.

I checked the registry for bloat. Keys look allright. The registry size is 1207 MB status OK.

Anyone have an idea how to troubleshoot and fix this?

TIA,

Fred

New printer keeps being added when dock is reconnected to laptop.

Hello, printer is HP M506.

User has this printer plugged into a Dell dock and the dock into  the laptop.

Each time she disconnects and reconnects the dock, another copy of the printer is installed with (Copy 1) after the name. However, this isn't set as the new default printer, causing confusion.

Is there a way to stop this behavior and have it keep the original printer without Windows automatically reinstalling another copy again?

Printing preferences from the print server don't synchronize in Windows 10 versions 1703, 1709, 1803

Wir have Windows Server 2016 with Printserver. Each printer is set as color and black/white. On the server side everything works correctly, but clients do not receive settings from the Server.

I have found many similar questions, but all of them are about earlier versions of Windows Server and Windows 10 and they didn't help anyway.

GPO Printers in Black & White only?

$

I have successfully deployed a network printer through GPO and set the default to Black & White only, however users are able to override the default setting of Black & White to printer in color under "Preferences".

How can I stop the user from being able to change the default of Black & White to color in "Preferences"?

Under the security tab of that particular printer the "everyone" group has "Print" & "Read permissions".

Do I need to make a "deny" entry under the security tab so something?
