LPR Issue

Hi All,

Just wondered if there was a way to increase the amount of ports LPR uses when a job is submitted?

We have an application that uses LPR - Its gets through 11 jobs fine, but on the 12th it pauses and times out.

We've put in the registry entry to use non standard ports but that hasn't helped.

Things also tried

- Changing port to use LPR

- Untick render print jobs on client computers

- Enable Branch office printing

All proved unsuccessful. Any help would be appreciated.

Server is 2016 standalone, running on as a VM.

USB Shared Printer

I have upgraded the hardware/software in one of my departments. The machines are now running Windows 10 but we have kept the old label printer (Zebra GX430t.) This is compatible with Windows 10.

It prints from the machine its connected to via USB, I have then shared this Printer over the network but no other computers can connect and print. I keep running into this:

We can't connect to the print server. This happens if the printer was renamed, deleted or moved to a different network.

Printer: ZDesigner GX430t on WS140

Path: WS140.internal.domain.school.nz\ZDesigner GX430t

Error: #1722

Any suggestions?  I have done some research but I haven't had much luck yet.

I would love to get this going so we can print labels from the Inwards Goods computer.

We have recently built a new windows 2016 server with print management. The issue we are seeing is that the printers we have deployed are no longer showing in AD or when try find a printer from the directory it shows no listings. If I select all the printers in print management and click List in Directory and they then appear again back in AD and when adding a printer via find a printer in the directory. This is happening every day and I can't find anything in the event log to say why this keeps happening.

Has anyone come across this before or at ideas?

Assistance to migrate print server from Windows Server 2008 R2 to Windows Server 2019

Hi Guys,

We are trying to move our print server from Windows Server 2008R2 to Windows Server 2019. Our print server contains more than 300 print queues and drivers. We have planned to migrate the print queues using inbulit Printer migration tool but getting error message "Printbrm.exe (the Printer Migration Wizard or the command-line tool) failed to place a file in cabinet (CAB) file E:\printbackup.printerExport while backing up print queues. Error reported: 0x80070070. There is not enough space on the disk. This can occur if the user does not have permission to create a file in the destination location, or if there is insufficient disk space or system resources."

I have tried Printbrm command utility tool as well with Nobin option but it is not helping as since most of the drivers are not getting exported. Do we have any other way of overcoming this 2GB CAB file size and do this migration via built in tool. Printers are configured at numerous sites and applications as well. Doing manual installation of printer drive and adding print queue is also hard way :( Can anyone help?

Deny Access to map directly to network printer - Server 2016

Is there a way we can configure a gpo/settings so users cannot map to the network printer directly using it's IP address?

But they should be able to map it via print server - \\printserver\sharename\.

How to grant user the permission to install print driver?

Hi,

We have Windows 2008 domain. Our domain users don't have the local admin privilege for their computers and for security reason we won't give them the local admin right.

Now we will deploy a new printer and we have 1000+ users. How can we install the printer for the end user without giving them the local admin right?

Need help!

Thanks in advance!

XPS Document Writer and MS Print to PDF printer write zero-byte empty files

$

On a fresh install of Windows Server 2019 in the RDSH role and after installing applications for users and configuring them, I found that the XPS writer and MS PDF printer both create zero-byte files with no errors either popping up or in the Event logs.

Focusing on the XPS printer first, I've tried reinstalling it manually (and electing to replace the driver, ) as well as via DISM (dism /online /enable-feature /featurename:Printing-XPSServices-Features after disable-feature), but the problem remains. Permissions on %TEMP% and the system temp dirs are default, and I do see two TMP files written then erased within a second after I try a test page, so folder permissions seem good. I also did sfc /scannow which only fixed some Admin tools shortcuts I removed from all users but the problem remains.

What else can I try?

Server 2016 - Print Server Hangs!!

Server 2016 with all windows updates .... running as Print Server.  A new setup
We have quite a few printers and only one of them is shared by GPO (User based GPO). All others are manually shared.

Issue is about once a week the print server hangs and we need to reboot the server. Enough hardware specs.
No errors related to printers in the event viewer.

Cannot seem to figure out what's happening here.... Any thoughts? Any specific logs which need to be looked at?

Printing issues through Microsoft Edge browser (creates two printer spooler files and balloons in large size) - RightFax system will no longer convert files

$

Hoping someone can shine some light on this issue:

Microsoft Edge is now the Default .pdf viewer on Windows 10.  It has been found with user's being Migrated over to Windows 10, when they Print a job through Microsoft Edge browser, it now creates Two Printer Spooler files and they are very very large in size ballooning.

The issue we have at work is, when an user prints from Microsoft Edge to a RightFax printer driver, the RightFax system can no longer work, as it cannot no longer do it's thing by 'converting' the file, like it has worked in the past on Windows 7 - either the file is now too large in size and or it is now altered in a way it no longer understands it.

From my initial reading searching the Internet this is now how all Microsoft Windows 10 Native Apps print ie: MS Edge, Maps, Photos etc. by creating two printer spooler files?

We have noticed if you print through Adobe Reader or Chrome, it ONLY creates one printer spooler file AND the print spooler file is much much smaller too and ALSO works with the RightFax system where RightFax can properly do it's conversion.

Is there a way to make Microsoft Edge, only generate one printer spool file and also be smaller in size?

Is there any known workaround for this issue?

If there was a need to change MS Edge browser so it was NOT the default application for .pdf files, but instead use Adobe Reader, what is the best way in an enterprise setting?   Way to script it?   GPO?

One thing we have tried is the GPO for:

Go to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Printers > Always render print jobs on server - but I have been told it still creates two printer spooler files and very very large in size

Also confirmed the following was set on the RightFax printer queues: setting the 'Render print jobs on client machines' as per https://community.pharos.com/docs/DOC-2812

Appreciate your knowledge, time and effort.

After KB4503276 on Server 2012 R2, High Sierra Macs get "Connection Refused" connecting to print queues

After KB4503276 on Server 2012 R2 (June 2019 Security rollup), High Sierra Macs get "Connection Refused" connecting to print queues.  I uninstalled KB4503276 and now the Macs can connect again.  I do not know how or if other OSX versions are affected.  The Macs connect using the UNC similar to  "SMB://myserver.mydomain.edu/QueueName".  Unfortunately we do not support LPD so that is not a workaround for us.  Macs also apparently do not allow a CIFS UNC for printing either.  The Macs use a variety of local print drivers, my own testing was using the Apple HP 604 print driver (PCL).

Has anyone else had this issue?

Server 2016 - RemoteApp Printing slow

Hello

We're using RemoteApps and are printing within the LAN to the printserver.

If I print a small 1KB document to the print server (or any other shared printer in the network), it takes around 20 seconds for the job to appear in the printing queue.

If I print the same document to a shared printer on the rdp-server, the client is connected to, it appears in the queue immediately.

Any ideas to speed up the printing process?

Thank you.

Redirected home printer not printing through VPN/RDP connection - Windows 7 Pro

Background:

Work and Home PC both Windows 7 Pro (latest updates), Sophos XG 125 Firewall & VPN, Using RDP once connected via VPN.  HP Laserjet Pro M148fdw (MFP) w/ethernet connection at home and is the default printer. Printer port set by home IP address. Test print page from home PC works fine. Printers set up on both work and home PCs with same exact driver. Once connected remotely, redirected printer appears and is the default. User has local administrator rights on both machines. Work machine is in AD environment.

Remotely connected and print a test page on the work PC on the redirected printer.  Have pulled up "what's printing" screen on both PCs. Also have the C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS folder on both PCs.  The test print job appears on the work PC as printing (the tmp files appear in the printer cache folder on the work PC. The job disappears on the work PC, but most of the TMP files remain.  Look at the home PC and the print job appears, the files appear in the cache folder, the job indicates it is printing. Meanwhile, I have the home printer web interface pulled up in a browser and the status of the printer wakes from being in auto sleep. The print job (after it appears to print) deletes from the home printer job screen, the TMP files on the home PC go away.  Nothing prints.  Looked at the printer cache folder on the work PC, most of the TMP files are still there, but nothing is listed in the print job screen on the work PC. The RDP session is checkmarked to print locally.

In the Event logs under "Application and Services/Microsoft/Windows/PrintService/Admin" Here's the error on the Work PC: The document Test Page, owned by <username>, failed to print on printer HP LaserJet Pro M148f-M149f PCL 6 (V3) (Network) (redirected 1). Try to print the document again, or restart the print spooler.

2 Errors on the Home PC:

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  This really has me scratching what little hair I have left on my head.
